What a great idea! Check out the new issue of Elle Decor and see how Cynthia Rowley glammed up her daughters' bunk beds with..... are you ready?.... plain old bathroom caulk painted white for sweet embellishments! I LOVE this idea..going to get out a few flea market frames and try it out this weekend!

Spa View....

My next home is definitely going to have LOTS of windows and natural light. I love windows in a bath..I think windows with spectacular views of nature really have a calming effect. Wouldn't you like to get ready for work each day in one of these baths!??

This bathroom is like a little jewel box..the window is small behind the sinks, but there is surely more windows elswhere. I especiall love the chandeliers, the marble sink counter top (my dream someday) , the fabulous mirror (tin frame i think, or distressed wood) I like how one sink has the mirror and the other the window..not perfect symetry..but works!

Carrara marble tub deck, gorgeous wood floors, soft antique rug, rustic wood ceiling... alot of different element here, but they all seem to come together with harmony.. oh...did I mention the VIEW?!

I was completely shocked & saddened this morning while perusing All The Best to find that the landmark Farnsworth House by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was flooded by the remnants of Ike... Read more about it HERE.

If you GOOGLE "Farnsworth House", you will find alot of great information on the history of this house and it's creator, Mies van der Rohe. Even if you don't think you are in love with modern architecture, you may be surprised after learning more about it, that you will at least come to appreciate it.

I fell in love with modern architecture just a few years ago after listing and selling an incredible modern home near my home town. The open floor plan, the walls of glass, natural light and connection to nature had me SOLD! I did a post on it called "Modern Mama"... To this day, I regret not buying it!

All the fall mums are planted out in the front yard to bring in the season. I couldn't help but take a picture of one of the last geranium blooms in the pots on the back patio! The brass strips woven around steel create an unusual artful pattern in daylight. I love that this was thought out as part of the overall design. Modern and fresh the pattern is the art.

This traditional entry features a front door with stained glass elements. The runner helps guide one in to sit a spell or take off their shoes and stay awhile. The hall table is a great place to drop your keys or mail. Be sure to have a beautiful vessel for that purpose.

My current home is more traditional, but I can't help but love the clean lines and natural light in the modern entry hall. Instead of artwork, the windows "frame" nature that is sure to immediately relax visitors as they enter the home. The beautiful wood panel screen helps define the space giving it the effect of a greeting space.

I LOVE the window at the end of this hallway. Though it is not an entry per say, it is a great example of how one can "frame nature" with a window and create a light filled space. The runners are in 2 different patterns which breaks up the length of the hallway effectively without being choppy.

I wish I could wear red lipstick! Just doesn't look good on me... I envy a gal that can pile it on and look fabulous~

Sofa Undone.....

What the heck was I thinking when I purchased this sofa? Yes, it looks pretty..but last night proved that it is NOT cozy and comfortable!

After a few MINUTES, here's what happens! My poor guests kept figiting and re-arranging and aplogizing every time they got up!! Arrrgghhhh!


This COMFORTABLE sofa made of the most soft, supple Italian leather is from my old digs, and now resides in my basement....I wish there was a way to make it "fit in" with my new decor! It has a large chair that goes with! I now wish I would have kept this couch and worked with it when I bought the new place. I emailed Heather of the fabulous, Habitually Chic
to help me with this dilemma, she was so kind to lend her thoughts..her feeling was the room was too traditional to carry the leather sofa...I wanted to cry, but value her opinion.... I will have to forge on and start a new search...or think about what elements can stay or will have to go in order to bring the leather sofa out of the basement!

Lesson... When shopping for furniture, haste always makes waste! Try each piece on for size~

Take a Seat!

The kitchen has a few more projects to

go..one being covering those God awful white muslim seat covers!!

Here's a shout out to all you designers I am taking a poll as to what to do here... distressed leather? textured heavy apholstery?simple microfiber?..

I have 8 nieces and nephews(need to be able to wipe up a pizza party!) and like the idea of a distressed leather with varigated coloring to pick up the brown walls and the brazilian cherry floors..(the brown and red tones)..the granite has a touch of a pinky salmon color....

I plan to commission my FAVORITE artist, Jane Slivka http://www.janeslivkagallery.com/ to do a painting for the blank wall to the left of the window.
