I was browsing through the new, "blue" issue of House Beautiful and came across this picture of one of the rooms designed by Tobi Fairley.
My eye stops dead at the chandy and cannot move around the space.... Does this work? Accept for the green in the granny smiths and the green accents in the light fixture.
I struggle to see the flow.... I picture a more luminescent glass chandy with a turquoise tint or baubles in green and blue..and a touch of rod iron.. this one feels too heavy..or..maybe some solid accent pillows on the chairs to break up all the dots?
What do you think?

Ok...when I first saw it I was gobsmacked by that fab chandy. I love that! What I am not lovin' is the chairs. I like the painted floor...the curtain color is eh. But I just don't like the upholstery on the chairs. Of course...I ain't no Tobi fairley...so whada I know!
I am with you Linda! I ain't no Tobi either..but really struggle with this look..I was thinking drum shade ...or something more translucent and light with some rod iron to pick up the dark floors and curtain rods..
Not wild about that room... chandelier is OVER powering!
The chairs are competing with the chandelier! It's one or the other. I'm a sucker for turquoise in just about anything, but I agree...just doesn't work with the chairs.
Sorry for the delayed post!
It's hard to say what the fabric on the chairs really look like. A lot of times I pick fabrics with a hint of a color and unless you're on top of it you don't see it. The fabric may have the granny smith color in it. But overall I think it works. The chandelier is the focal point and everything else is muted down to show it off.
Hi Ivy....found you through Brock Street and Red Ticking. Thank you for bringing this up because I just didn't see it either. The beautiful bohemian style chandy belongs in a room that will compliment it's gloriousness. A more "raw" space would fit it to a T. I'd put that beauty up in a heartbeat though if I could - whether it "went" or not. Fun read!
I'm in LOVE with the chandelier...
Have a bright, bold, and beautiful weekend!
xoxo Laura
Hmmm. . . that could be true, it is a statement though! (thanks for your comment on my pictures :)
Ohhh I think it's quite fantastic! The chandelier steal the show certainly---perhaps something a little bolder for the chair fabric? Regardless, I'm in love. XO
very good point - I like your idea of something more translucent. I do love the chandelier but I've seen it in other spaces I thought worked better overall. Marija
Hmmm. I agree with a lot of what's already been mentioned.
I think the dining set just doesn't work with the chandelier. I don't like the chairs, personally, but the fabric mixed with the color details of the table, mixed with the chandelier, mixed with the drapery color...not working.
I believe the entire room needs a redo. That's my two cents worth...
Your blog is wonderful. Have a happy weekend!
