Saarinen on Sale????

I was perusing the "Saturday Sale" on 1st Dibs this morning and came across this original Saarinen (for Knoll) side table offered for a sale price of $3760 by Threshold (an absolutely fantastic website with a treasure trove of antiques and accessories)

I thought to myself....THREE THOUSAND seven hundred and sixty dollars!!??? THAT is a sale price?? I know to have an "original" piece is more valuable and will appreciate, but really...would you buy a table for that amount of cash when you can get a brand new one at Design Within Reach for $759? I have seen these "originals" on 1st Dibs before...same style table for less than $1000. Was wondering what makes this one worth so much more...it has a scratch in the base as well...Someday, I will have one of these babies but not on "sale" for over $3K! WOW!

Feast For The Eyes.....

I finally received my copy of the March issue of Elle Decor and have not been able to stop studying the images of the interiors designed by renowned interior designer, Richard Keith Langham. I think I almost fainted when I saw the wallpaper in the above picture. It is called Pineapple Arabesque and I am dying to have it in my kitchen now! I am too chicken to call and inquire as to whether or not it is offered only "to the trade" or if the general public can be so privledged! and.... will I be able to swallow the price tag !! Isn't it just lovely?

I know many of you design blogstars as I like to call you, are well aware of Mr. Langham's work...I am just becoming familiar and and always intrigued when I fall upon an image of a room that he designed. His unexpected choices of color and mix of art and antiques always results in pure perfection! I Love the color of the walls in the pics above and below. The starburst mirrors are amazing! My true love is modern architecture, but I think I could get used to living in these interiors! I also love that the wood floors are not too perfect..the home looks comfortable and inviting...

The carpet above was designed by Langham and made by Stark Carpet. It brings everything down a notch and softens the palette just beautifully. I'll bet it feels divine under foot!

I wish I could see what the other side of the master bedroom looks like! The above image depicts pure glam but not so feminine that the "master" of the house wouldn't feel right at home there. The mirror is so stunning and adds a nice contrast to the soft draperies and fur accent rug.
There are more rooms featured in this article that are worthy of feasting the eyes upon. I am gonna go hunt down that wallpaper!!! Happy Saturday!!!

The Winner Is.....

Every year there is a favorite Christmas card... I hope my scanner did this one justice! My sister Elizabeth included this card with a gift she purchased for my husband. The drive/path and the snow on the fence sparkles with glitter. I have several that I have kept over the years and have always been meaning to frame them and display them each holiday season... This one is definitely going in a frame and going to have a spot of honor in my home office! Thanks Lizzy!

A Touch of Pink....

I was looking for something inspiring to post for Pink Saturday and WOOOLAA! While visiting Fifi Flowers this morning, I found this BEAUTIFUL painting she did as part of her blog today!
Check out her blog HERE She takes you on a whimsical tour of an inside garden that will definitely get you thinking gardening and spring! Especially wonderful for those of us that are hunkered down in another artic blast this weekend! Thanks for a beautiful painting Fifi and Happy Pink Saturday Everyone!

A "Life Project"....

As some of you know, I love modern architecture and design. I came across this beautiful home built by Tom Kundig for artist, designer, Jan McFarland. Read about it HERE

It is located on a 20 acre parcel in the Idaho desert. In the article Ms. McFarland said she needed a new "life project". The home took nearly a decade to build! I love that she never abandoned her dream up against getting the plans approved for the site, soaring costs, design modifications and many other challenges.

The result is a beautiful home described as a tootsie roll by Tom Kundig "hard on the outside, but soft on the inside". I love that! The views are breathtaking. How would you like to be making your breakfast while looking out at those mountains??!! Those carrara marble counter tops are fabulous!

The interior is warm and inviting. The reclaimed fir was left unfinished and Ms. Cox said she is prepared to sand or use steel wool to buff out stains that may occur. I am sure that kept costs down by not finishing the wood. The challenge to find a company to make the large glass windows that came in a year late would be enough to throw me over the edge! They sure were worth the wait!

I love how the window frames the fireplace and that the sky and the mountains are in the back round. The view softens the hardness of the fireplace and brings the scale down a bit.

This photo is inspiring to me. The two tiny vases by ceramicist Christiane Perrochon from Tuscany are part of a collection that Ms. McFarland has. Don't you just love white tulips in winter?
All the photos were taken by Stuart Isett for the NY Times.
Does anyone have a "life project" they are dreaming about?

Whole Foods...

As we were driving through the country side of St. Maarten we passed this little market stand on the side of the road. The colors of all the fruits and vegetables were just beautiful! We could almost taste the delights there! Island color, you just gotta love it!

Pink Saturday Sunset....

I was visiting Fifi Flowers and Back Porch Musings today and thought I would contribute a little something for Pink Saturday. Check out the gorgeous Amalfi Coast on Fifi's site and then pop on over and see a beautiful "pink" sunrise on Back Porch Musings site! Today's pic here is of the Sunset as we were leaving the beautiful island of St. Thomas a week ago this past Monday! The most gorgeous pink glow surrounded the island as the sun was setting....ahhhhh...

Happy Pink Saturday!

Orchids and Lunch..Barbados

I have been having so much fun catching up on all the blogging I missed while on vacation. Today, I had the pleasure of reading the most beautiful post by Patricia of Pve Design. It inspired me to post this picture of an orchid on the table of a beautiful beach cafe in Barbados that I enjoyed a scrumptious lunch at a week ago today! Go check out Patricia's blog today and see why it inspired me...

Motivation...

Okay, I have to face reality, I am home from vacation now and must get motivated! So, it's back to work!

Chandeliers On The Beach....

This past Friday, we were lunching outside in at a quaint cafe on the Orient Beach on the French side of St. Maarten. The wind suddenly picked up and a rain shower moved in forcing us to move under cover. I was so glad as I would have missed seeing these beautiful chandeliers hanging in the pavillion! I love the contrast of the white, shell like chandelier against the rustic wood beamed ceiling..don't you? I'll bet in the evening after sunset this place looks magical.
Below is a picture I snapped of the view from our table under those fab chandeliers after the rain shower cleared away. Ahhhh..... the fresh grilled Mahi Mahi and French Chardonnay...and that view.....

I was walking along the beach at Payne's Bay in beautiful Barbados and literally stumbled on the light fixture below..almost stubbing my toe on a big piece of coral... I am usually looking down at the sand searching for shells, coral and sea glass...but on this day I found this gorgeous red light fixture that resembles red coral..I immediately thought of Courtney from Stylecourt
It reminds me of the chinoiserie and pagodas that she often blogs about. I tried to get a wider shot of the building but the water is so close to the front, and the waves were a little rough. We were later told by a local catamaran captain that the building is actually not a hotel, but condos that START at $12,000,000....yep..that's 12 MILLION dollars!

Hope you enjoy! Happy Tuesday!

Count Your Blessings Every Day...

One of my resolutions for 2009 is to stop and count my blessings each and every day. What is one resolution you hope to keep for 2009?

Back To Reality....

I had the privledge and the pleasure to visit beautiful Marigot Bay in St. Lucia just a few days ago...after 10 days of pure bliss in the Southern Caribbean, we arrived home today to a foot of snow! I've been away, had time to ponder the upcoming year and my resolutions...ahhh..those wonderful resolutions!

I'll be back to post some pics of the beautiful, warm scenery from the trip!

Can't wait to visit the rest of my favorite bloggers tomorrow morning while enjoying my coffee! Hope everyone had a great last week and that you all have a great week this week!
