Egg Fresh or Egg Modern?

Flickr by pucherry
Ahh... the famous Egg Chair by Arne Jacobsen has be "hatching" all over the place in many design interiors. When I saw the famed Bunny Williams cover on the latest issue of House Beautiful, I was not sure if I liked the use of the Egg Chair in that space amidst more traditional elements in the room.....I thought...mmmmm...how come that works? or Does it work?
How come I can't move my more modern sofa up to my living room to erase the mistake of a sofa I recently made?? So many design gurus seemed to think the Egg Chair in Ms. William's design adds just the right amount of edge, or mmm... what was the word...tension?...
I guess my love of mid century modern everything wanted me to give this red Egg a chance! Soo... the magazine sits on my desk so that I can see it every day and hope that it will grow on me in this setting...
What do you all think?

Is it that it throws things off kilter a bit? or is it the punch of color? or is it really tension?

Below, the yellow Egg seems to fit.... maybe it's because it's in a kitchen, and it reminds me of breakfast there.... or maybe there is less "tension" in the room.....mmm..

What do you think?

Now, below... (eventhough the blue chairs are "Swans" and not "Eggs") ,
I feel like everything feels like it has it's place, just pretend those are blue "Eggs"...
How does that feel?

Two "Green Eggs" anyone? Seems so quiet and cozy...no tension..nothing off .... or..

Do you think this is boring??

You can barely make out the "Black Egg" in this modernist living space...

Do you like?

Or here?... where it all began?
This feels most comfortable to me!!
Tell us what you think?

I love that egg chair. I have wanted one in an egg yolk colour for my living room for quite some time.

Love it Ivy Lane!
I love the Egg chair in all the above applications (and congratulations to Bunny, I think she's a genius with her black glasses)! There is something fun about the top two rooms, I would enjoy being in them and I would enjoy their owners...sometimes that's how I judge interiors. I cannot help but love the Egg chair in bright yellow at the breakfast table, so witty! I have long wanted one in camel leather (I keep a folder of dreams on my computer), but maybe I'll switch to a color! Love it!

And have you ever see the movie-Down With Love? There are pink Womb chairs all over! Check it out, you'll flip!

Best,
Claire

Love the egg chair- it's a classic with beautiful lines and proportions, but...... Well like Joni said, you'll have to come have a listen at the skirted round table this week! We all have Moss' eggs, on the brain!

I think the egg chair brings "tension", height, fun and color into almost all these rooms. It reminds me of the barcelona chair, it can go into almost room. Great post! Congrads on your award from Belle Vivir! You obviously are well deserving.

You know I agree with you, it looks out of place in that living room!

I love the top image. The egg chair goes well with other styles around it.

Love this post. I, too, like the egg chair along with some other modern classics. I love it in yellow in the kitchen you showed, and I also like the blue ones in the more modern interior - but oh that Bunny, did she ever stir it up with all the design folks by putting it in that room!

I TOLD you about the skrited roundtable - isn't that weird? great minds think alike I guess!!!

Ivy - I wrote a long post about seagrass about 3 weeks ago - it tells you everything you need to know!! Design Element #3 is what it is called. thanks!!!

Love egg chairs ... In Bunny William's, I think the reason why some people have second thoughts about the egg chair is because of the blue walls as backdrop to it... but personally I think that the red egg chair in that room rocks...
